What do we do when it gets there?
We will bring the Central School to its new home and restore it to its role as an educational and cultural center for the Chicago area. We would like to place it on a full foundation, with a climate controlled storage space below, and then restore the interior to one large open space. We would like to be able to set up a schoolhouse display in the space that would allow students and adults in the region to come and see what education was like around the turn of the century. However, this display will be easily movable. The Central School has always been more than just a schoolhouse for Mount Prospect. It has hosted meetings of many different groups, has entertained the community and has been a spiritual center for the village. We plan to restore the school to be able to serve the larger community in all of these ways again. We would like the space to be potentially available to groups for meetings. We would like the space to be available for local art displays, summer evening movies and other forms of entertainment for the community. We would like the space to be available for small weddings and anniversaries. We would like to once again make this great building a community center that is accessible in different ways to different groups.
